Yesterday was one in many rainy days we've been having lately in the area. It was cold, damp and miserable. Zane was pretty cranky and fussy, too for most of the day. Yet, somehow, it didn't matter.
My boy slept for close to 2 hours in the local coffee shop, while I read a book and sipped soup and chai tea. Around the time that he awoke, my freinds, Maria and Brooke came by to have a bit of lunch. (btw, if you haven't tried the Cosi signature salad, Please Do! its marvelous.)
Brooke gave me a beautiful frame complete with pictures of myself and Zane and a lovely card. After lunch, I did a few errands, then went back home. Duane met me at the door and not only did he carry the bub up all of those stairs, but he made dinner (BoolKogi with sautee'd veggies) and cleaned up. Duane also gave me a really cool camera phone and a fleece pouch which is still on its way, because the company sent it to the wrong address, and it got sent back.
Then, just when I thought it couldn't get any better, he presented me with a Melrose Diner Buttercream Cake. MY FAVORITE TREAT OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't had one of these cakes in 10 years. My mother used to get one for me every year for my birthday and it is so good that she used to have a very tiny slice, herself, despite the fact that she's diabetic and NEVER ate sugar. Not.Ever.
It's a regular pound cake with a buttercream icing. Now, I'm sure you've had buttercream icing. It's very good and all that, but it's not like THIS buttercream icing. Because THIS buttercream icing is actually the consistancy of butter with just a touch of confectioner's sugar thrown in for good measure. (after all, it is a cake)
And, if you ever come to philly, you MUST MUST MUST stop by the Melrose Diner on Passyunk Ave to have a decent lunch and a WHOPPING peice of this cake. You'll remember it always. In fact, you'll be calling me on the phone, and sending me emails, asking if I'll ship it to you for YOUR birthday every year. Yes, indeed, it's really just that delicious.
So, "how was it to turn 36," you may ask? It was a glorius, beautiful, wonderous day!
